Boyds Tower and Green Cape lookout are the southern whale platforms. The Pinnacles are a different section and a different fee. If you want both south lookouts plus the north, you need two days.

Peak southward migration is September to early December (females with calves). A broader April–November window is often cited. Treat it as a window and [VERIFY] the week you travel. Binoculars. Stay on signed platforms. No guaranteed breach — the trip still counts.

Boyds Tower and Green Cape lookout are both in the Green Cape section ($8 / vehicle / day). You can do both lookouts in one southern day if you skip walks. Adding The Pinnacles means crossing Eden — make it a second morning.

Cottages at Green Cape are closed until at least 31 December 2026. The lookout stays open. Commercial Eden whale boats are optional, weather-cancelled, and not a park tour.

Decide: southern lookouts only today, or north tomorrow. Screenshot alerts. Pack binoculars, windproof layer, water. Whales are not a reason to stand on red rock beyond the barrier. Agree a leave-the-cape clock.
Leave Eden early
Holiday and whale weekends fill first
Boyds Tower is about 45 minutes south of Eden on the official Light to Light page. Arrive early on holiday and whale weekends. Fuel in town. Pay $8 or show a pass at Boyds Tower.
Morning
Boyds Tower — actually watch
Grade 1 boardwalk, 0.8 km return. Stay long enough to watch, not just photograph. Toilets and seating at the carpark. If the carpark is already ugly, you still have Green Cape lookout in the same paid section — do not invent the northern section as a Plan B.
Midday
Drive to Green Cape lookout
Same section, extra gravel. Official pages disagree on kilometres — follow signs. Lookout only unless the group is fit for the 7 km Grade 4 loop and the wind is civil. Skip the loop in storm surge. Cash may be needed at this carpark [VERIFY].
Afternoon
Sit, then Eden — not The Pinnacles
Eat, hydrate, leave with daylight on Edrom Road. The Pinnacles are free entry and a different drive around Twofold Bay. That is a second morning, not “on the way home.”
Optional second morning
Pambula-Haycock
Free entry. Pinnacles loop 1.1 km Grade 3. Night shooting after 6pm at named northern sites through 6am Friday 25 September 2026 — finish in daylight if that snapshot is still current. [VERIFY].

Parking & access tips

Both southern carparks fill in whale season. Have a picnic Plan B in Eden.

Wildlife on Edrom / Green Cape roads after dusk — leave in daylight.
