How to get there

1. Past Eden ~16 km on the Princes Highway, left Edrom Road, then Boyds Tower Road (2WD gravel). Official pages disagree on exact kilometres — follow signs.
2. Park only in the signed carpark. Pay the $8 Green Cape vehicle day entry or display an annual pass. [VERIFY] machine.
3. Accessible parking, toilets and seating are at the carpark. Do not park on cliff edges or block the turning circle.
4. Fuel and last shops in Eden before Edrom. After extreme rain, treat unsealed roads as possibly closed and read alerts.

How to do it (step by step)

1. Arrive, pay or display a pass, use the toilets, put on a wind layer — the tower is cooler and windier than Eden.
2. Follow the accessible boardwalk to the tower and lookouts. Official time 30 minutes–1 hour. Stay for the view if whales are moving.
3. Stay on the boardwalk and behind barriers. Red cliffs at Red Point are not a scramble. Supervise children at the platforms.
4. Read the interpretive signs (history, geology, marine life). Take the Twofold Bay photo from the formed lookouts.
5. This is also the Light to Light start. Don’t keep walking south without a booked finish, a water plan and a car shuffle.

What to expect

Official: 0.8 km return, Grade 1, 30 minutes–1 hour, accessible boardwalk, accessible parking, toilets and seating. The tower is historic sandstone (1847) above Twofold Bay.

This is the walk to recommend when someone wants Beowa without Light to Light logistics. You’re there for the tower and a sit-down. The Pinnacles are in the other section of the park — a different drive.

Treat it as a lookout precinct with a short formed walk, not a wilderness trek. Wind can make a mild Eden day feel cold on the platforms.

Who this walk is for

Families, first-timers from Eden, mixed-ability groups, and anyone who wants the southern section without a Grade 4 loop or a booked overnight. Wheelchair and pram users can use the accessible boardwalk and parking — confirm on-site surfaces on the day.

If the group is fit and wants rock platforms, that is Green Cape loop — a different walk, extra drive, skip in surge. If they want The Pinnacles, that is tomorrow on the other side of Twofold Bay.

Access and day shape

2WD via Boyds Tower Road off Edrom Road. Pay machine at the carpark for Green Cape vehicle entry. Accessible parking, toilets and seating are on site.

Easy day shape: stroll the boardwalk, read the interpretive signs, sit at the Twofold Bay and red-cliff lookouts. Combine with Green Cape lookout only if daylight and energy remain. Combine with the first metres of Light to Light only if you already have a booked finish.

Cottages at Green Cape are closed until at least 31 December 2026. The tower is not a café and not a staffed refuge.

What to pair (and what not to)

Strong pairs: sit for whales in season, then Eden for lunch; or Green Cape lookout only if the extra gravel is already in the plan.

Weak pairs: The Pinnacles the same morning; Light to Light “just the first 9 km” with no booked finish; Green Cape 7 km loop as a cool-down after a late arrival.

Two failure modes (and the turnaround)

Failure one: stacking The Pinnacles onto a Boyds morning. There is no park road through Twofold Bay. That is two drives and two tired lookouts, not a better visit.

Failure two: treating the tower as the start of Light to Light without platforms, water or a finish-car. The track continues south. Your booking does not.

Official vs the sign: 0.8 km Grade 1, 30 minutes–1 hour on the NPWS page. Pay machines, wind and carpark capacity still change. This page is not a walked status check.
