Pick one section. Southern: Boyds Tower (and maybe Green Cape lookout if time remains). Northern: The Pinnacles plus an optional Haycock picnic. Don’t try both just because they’re the same park.

Twofold Bay and Eden sit between Pambula-Haycock and Green Cape. There is no park road through. A day that tries both is a highway day with two tired lookouts.

Fees: north of Eden is free vehicle entry. South of Eden is $8 per vehicle per day [VERIFY]. Camping is a different product. Annual passes do not cover camping.

If you only do one thing in the south, make it Boyds Tower (Grade 1, 0.8 km return, accessible). If you only do one thing in the north, make it The Pinnacles (1.1 km Grade 3 loop). Optional extras stay optional.

Always check Beowa local alerts the morning you leave. This itinerary is planning guidance — not live track status. Night shooting through 6am Friday 25 September 2026 closes named northern sites after 6pm — finish those walks in daylight.

Track status, weather and closures change — verify on NSW National Parks before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only.

Timeline

  1. Night before

    Pick the section out loud

    Read official local alerts on home Wi-Fi. Decide Green Cape or Pambula-Haycock — not both. Screenshot the fee rule. If you are in the north during the night-shooting window (through 6am Friday 25 September 2026), finish walks before 6pm. Pack 2 L water, hat, SPF, wind layer. Agree a time to leave and a “leave the park by” clock.

  2. Leave town

    One highway, one turn-off

    From Eden go south for Boyds Tower (official Light to Light page: about 45 minutes). From Merimbula / Pambula go south on the Princes Highway then Haycock Road for The Pinnacles. Do not “swing past the other section” on the way. Fuel and last shops in town before the gravel.

  3. Southern option

    Eden → Boyds Tower

    Edrom Road, then Boyds Tower Road (2WD gravel). Pay $8 or show a pass. Walk the 0.8 km Grade 1 boardwalk. Sit for whales in season. Toilets and seating at the carpark. Official time 30 minutes–1 hour.

  4. Southern optional add-on

    Green Cape lookout only

    Only if daylight and energy remain. Extra drive on Green Cape Road. Official pages disagree on kilometres — follow signs. Cottages closed until at least 31 Dec 2026; lookout stays open. Skip the 7 km loop unless the group is actually fit for Grade 4 rock and the wind is civil.

  5. Northern option

    Pambula → The Pinnacles

    About 9 km south of Pambula, left Haycock Road. Free entry. 1.1 km Grade 3 loop. Stay off the formations. Optional Haycock Point picnic. Do not start Haycock–Barmouth at 3pm. Through 6am Friday 25 September 2026: Pinnacles, Haycock picnic and Haycock–Barmouth close after 6pm when operations run — finish in daylight.

  6. Afternoon

    Town buffer, not a second section

    Eden if you were south; Pambula / Merimbula if you were north. Food, toilets, a sit-down. That is a complete first visit. The other section is tomorrow.

  7. Do not

    Stack the two sections

    Boyds Tower plus The Pinnacles is two parks’ worth of driving. Save the other section for tomorrow. Light to Light “just the first 9 km” with no booked finish is not a day-trip extra.

Packing

  • 2 L water per adult
  • Sun hat + SPF50
  • Wind layer — cape and lookouts are cooler than town
  • Binoculars (whale season)
  • Shoes with grip — gravel and short Grade 3 loops
  • Snacks that survive a warm bag
  • Offline alert screenshot + Emergency+ already installed
  • Cash/card — Green Cape lighthouse carpark may need cash [VERIFY]

Parking & access tips

  • Boyds Tower: signed carpark, pay machine, accessible bays. Do not park on cliff edges.
  • Pinnacles / Haycock: 2WD gravel; park only in signed bays.
  • Green Cape lighthouse carpark may need cash [VERIFY].
  • After extreme rain, treat unsealed roads as possibly closed.
  • Wildlife on Edrom and Green Cape roads after dusk — leave in daylight.

  • Light to Light “just the first 9 km” with no booked finish

Who this plan is for

  • First-timers who will pick one section and keep it
  • Groups sleeping in Eden (south) or Merimbula / Pambula (north)
  • Mixed-ability groups who can use Boyds Tower as the whole day
  • Anyone tempted to “do both because they’re the same park”

Decision gates (say them out loud)

  • If the group is mixed-mobility: Boyds Tower only
  • If you sleep in Merimbula / Pambula: do the north
  • If you sleep in Eden: do the south
  • If alerts close a picnic after 6pm: finish in daylight
  • If energy remains after Boyds: lookout only — not the 7 km loop by default

What success looks like

  • No “quick dash” across Twofold Bay
