Decision first: do not turn Boyds Tower into Day 1 of Light to Light because the track continues south. If Mowarry and Hegartys platforms are not booked, you do not have the walk. You have a lookout — which is still a visit.
Official product is 32 km one-way, Grade 4, typically two nights. Creek wades at Saltwater, Woodburn and Bittangabee can require waiting. Tanks at the platforms are small; carry at least 5 L and treat water. Limited reception. 000 needs a signal. That is not a long afternoon from Eden.
Plan B that still counts: sit at Boyds Tower; book a vehicle camp for another trip; use a confirmed transfer only if you already have platforms. Walking “just the first 9 km” with no finish is how groups meet a tide creek with a day pack.

The decision before Edrom Road
If platforms are not in the inbox, do not drive to Boyds Tower as a multi-day start. Drive there as a lookout. The 0.8 km Grade 1 boardwalk is the honest product.
Success metric: you either walked a booked Light to Light, or you stopped at the tower without pretending. Creek heroics without a booking are not a badge.
Why “just the first 9 km” fails
Day 1 to Mowarry is 9 km and 2–3 hours on paper. You still need a booked platform, treated water, guy ropes, and a plan if the next creek is not wadable. Turning around to the start car is a 9 km walk back with a pack that is no longer fun.
Vehicle camps at Saltwater Creek and Bittangabee shorten a trip only if you booked them. They are not walk-up day shelters.

Can we walk Boyds Tower to Saltwater Creek as a day?
Official day section exists (13.2 km Grade 4, 4.5–5.5 hrs) only if you planned the finish and a way back. It is not a casual add-on after the tower. Most first visits should stay on the boardwalk.
Platforms are full — is the walk dead?
That date is. Boyds Tower still works. Rebook Mowarry/Hegartys or a vehicle camp. Do not start south hoping for a spare platform.
Do we need a walk permit?
Current official baseline: no general walk permit. Book platforms. Trip intention recommended. [VERIFY] any future change.
Is a commercial transfer a substitute for booking?
No. A transfer moves bags and people. Platforms, water, creeks and the $8 vehicle day (if you drive) still apply. This site is not affiliated with transfer operators.
